It is a REALLY good thing that this weekend was a long one because I have not been doing well. I've lost six pounds in the last week. I am having trouble eating and sleeping which I am going to blame mostly on pregnancy. Nobody ever told me about how all your muscles relax during pregnancy. It began with heartburn then I would wake myself up at night choking on my own spit. The last four nights in a row I haven't been able to sleep more than a few hours. Every time I finally relax into a deep sleep fluid comes up and I begin to choke which develops into an evil croupy cough that lasts all night long. I've tried sitting up while sleeping and it still happens! Has anyone else had this crazy symptom and if so what did you do to sleep? I still have a month of teaching left and I can't keep the pace up on only a few hours a night! I might call the doctor up this week and see what he says.

I had really awful heartburn and sometimes woke up choking, too, which was scary and uncomfortable! I had to be very careful about what I ate, and I was also careful not to drink too much water while I was eating. I ate very small amounts of food at a time, and that seemed to help, too. I found that I had to avoid spicy foods, acidic foods, and foods that digested too slowly. I kept a bottle of Tums in my nightstand and used them often. =) I wasn't able to sleep lying down at all after about the 6th month because it hurt my back too much, and I'm not sure that sleeping sitting up helped as much as the other thing I mentioned. I hope you find relief soon!

p.s. other "things" not "thing". =)
Heartburn would wake me when I was pregnant with Genna, but I never had the choking problem. That must be scary! I'd just take some tums and I was fine. It did help to eat small amounts all throughout the day also. Definitely talk to your doctor! I hope you get some relief (and sleep) soon!
Tums and Rolaids never worked for me, and I got to the point where I was taking Ranitadine twice a day. It is totally worth it, and I would absolutely recommend asking your doc if he/she is okay with that (I think you have a he-doctor, but I'm so tired I'm not remembering at the moment!)
ohhhhhhh, memories of night-long heart burn flooding back to me... sorry! So nice that those things are quickly erased from memory when the baby arrives. SO happy baby Shack is thriving, I think of you and Baby Shack every day. xoxo-Anna
