Orlando 2015 - The Girls' First Disney Trip

In November 2015 we took the girls to their first ever Disney trip to Walt Disney World.  We bought 10 day park hopper passes and spent 17 days at the the Harbor Lake MVCI property there.  It was exhausting but awesome!
So much fun on Dumbo!
The highlight of her trip was getting to hold a baby alligator!
Lena had fun learning about pin trading and making crafts in the kids club.
Sisters watching the Florida sunset.
Looking for alligators and turtles.
Winnie the Pooh is one of their favorites!

The Long Beach Race 2015

We love the Long Beach races in October so in 2015 we added Lena to the race roster.  She ran the Aquarium Kids Fun Run which is one mile long.  She wasn't super thrilled about running but ended up being very competitive as she tried to pass people along the way.  It made for a great strong finish.  She loved getting her medal and admission to the aquariums as well.  Dan and I ran the half marathon this year tag teaming as we pushed the double BOB stroller with the girls inside.  It took us around 3 hours to run the 13 miles but we made it and everyone did great!  It was funny to pull over and change a diaper at mile 5 but it was a very bonding experience.

After!  It was really hot!

Mother's Day 2015

This past weekend I celebrated Mother's Day with my two special girls and with my Mom.  Poor Dan had to work so we had a fun afternoon at Grandma's house.  A few days before mother's day though we took a spontaneous trip up to Big Bear to get in on a rare May snowstorm so that our little "snowflakes" could see snow fall for the first time.  We had a great time doing a puzzle, teaching Lena how to play Sorry, eating fun snacks, playing in the park, and Dan and Lena had a ton of fun playing in the snow making mini snowmen and throwing snowballs.  It was such a fun little trip and we can't wait to go back sometime.

Oahu March 2015

In March we headed off to Oahu for a two week vacation with my parents and some of Dan's family.  We had a great visit with lots of pool and beach time, beautiful walks, some touristy activities, and some down time hanging with the family.
We started our vacation off with a short three night stay at the Disney Aulani (thanks Steve and Debbie!) just a short walk away from our Marriott timeshare in Ko Olina. Lena still hasn't had a true Disney experience so we were excited for her to meet Mickey and enjoy the resort for a few days.  The resort was AMAZING.  It had a lazy river, multiple water slides, great pool areas for kids of all ages, characters walking around everywhere, a really fun technology scavenger hunt, an awesome free hula show, a place where we could check Lena in to do activities while we did more adult activities around the resort, snorkeling in a huge man made reef....the list is endless!  We never left the resort during those three days and just soaked up all the fun.  One of the most fun activities we did was go to the character breakfast one morning.  That is where we got to take
pictures with Mickey and several other characters and Lena got to dance and do other fun interactive things in between eating her breakfast.

After our Disney stay we checked into our villa at the Marriott Ko Olina and we met up with my parents and Dan's family.  The Marriott resort is gorgeous.  We had stayed there before but were really busy doing touristy things on the island.  This trip we stayed at the resort more. The highlight for most of us was the beach time.  We loved snorkeling in the lagoons.  We swam with sea turtles, saw every kind of tropical fish, and even got close (kind of by accident) to a monk seal!  Kinley was fighting a bad case of the croup so she didn't get a ton of pool/beach time but when she did she loved it!  She is definitely a "water baby".

During our stay we visited the Polynesian Culture Center and stayed for their awesome show at night.  Lena had fun learning hula, going on a canoe, and fishing.  We also booked a few boat rides during our stay.  The first boat ride was for Dan's birthday and we went on a catamaran dinner cruise at sunset.  We had great views of Diamond Head and Honolulu.  The second boat ride was on a pirate boat!  Lena LOVED this activity and the people who ran it were seriously awesome.  There was sword fighting, water cannon shooting, treasure hunts, and all sorts of fun while we cruised the waters outside of Honolulu.

Because of the time difference the girls were up EARLY the entire trip.  Most mornings I would snatch the girls before they could disturb the peace too much, toss them in the double stroller and we would take our morning "donut walk" as we called it.  First we stopped at the resort grocery store to buy a super delicious but over priced "Long John" donut (creme filled with powder sugar).  Them we would stop and say good morning to the koi fish and king fisher bird.  Then we would leave the resort and walk along the beach path and head to the Aulani to wave at Mickey while he greeted buffet guests.  Then we would fly down the fun downhill sidewalk like a roller coaster and head back towards the Marriott stopping to watch waves, say hi to strangers, and see if any sea turtles were beached on the sand.  It was a ritual I ended up really liking being a morning person at heart.
We had a great time with family and the girls LOVED Hawaii!

Sacramento / San Francisco 2014

Kinley's first visit to the SF Cable Cars!
In December 2014 Dan had to attend the CHP academy in Sacramento for three weeks.  So we packed up the family and moved in with my cousin in Sacramento for most of December.  We snuck away one weekend to stay in San Francisco and see the sights.  It was a neat getaway!

San Diego 2014

The weekends before and after our Palm Desert "Babymoon" we headed down to San Diego for a little more family adventure before we welcome a newborn into the mix.  In June we spent the day with friends on Silver Strand State Beach relaxing on the sand while the kids built sand castles.  That evening we headed up to Escondido to stay at a hotel for one night.  We got a Living Social deal for the Wild Animal Park and took Lena there the next day before heading home.  She loved seeing all the animals, riding the tram, feeding birds and petting goats, and getting to ride the merry-go-round.
"On Safari" in the wild life tram.
Lena and Dan using their binoculars to see animals up close.
Mom posing with her favorites, the giraffes!
Dan feeding the lorakeets
The birds just kept coming...
...and coming...it was so funny!
After the Fourth of July weekend we headed back down to San Diego and stayed at the Hilton in the Gaslamp Quarter.  It was a great location for us right on the trolley stop and next to a fun dog park.  Lena loved seeing the trolley and dogs right outside the hotel.  The first night we took the trolley up to Old Town to have dinner at Fiesta del Reyes and then dessert in Little Italy at Extraordinary Desserts before catching the trolley back to our hotel.
The view from our hotel room.
Relaxing in the courtyard at Fiesta del Reyes.
I ordered an enchilada sampler: pork with salsa verde, chicken with white cheese sauce, and cheese with red sauce.
Dan ordered the chile relleno plate
Summer berry bread pudding make with croissants and creme brulee cream with house made while chocolate ice cream and vanilla and berry sauces
Dulce de Leche cheese cake with caramel and vanilla sauces.
The next day we spent the whole day at Sea World since Dan was a "first responder" to the San Diego wildfires and was gifted admission for our family.  Neither Dan or I had been there since we were little kids so we were excited to take Lena there for the first time.  She LOVED it...every minute of it!  She wanted to pet all the animals, even Shamu. Ha!  After Sea World we cleaned up at the hotel and had dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory next to our hotel.  We were exhausted!
Watching the killer whales!
Taking a ride over the bay in the sky buckets.
Petting bamboo sharks
The sea turtles were one of our favorites!
Waiting for our table at Old Spaghetti Factory
After a nice sleep in and checking out of the hotel we headed north to Oceanside for a fun beach day with my brother and his family before heading home.  Dan and Lena had a blast building a sand fortress with the cousins.

It was a great couple nights away as a family.  I love our little adventures!
